What to Bring

Fishing gear, Clothing and Personal items

Below is an equipment list to help you bring what you will need. Please Contact Us! with any questions or concerns as your prepare for your Patagonia fly fishing experience.

Fishing Gear

The gear and tackle we use in Patagonia is similar to what you would use for trout fishing in the rest of the world, so if you already have gear and tackle for trout fishing, likely you will have almost everything you need for your adventure. If you don’t, we are proud to be a full service outfitting company and are happy to supply you with anything you might need during your trip.

Fly Rods
Two fly rods, one 5 wt and one 7 wt. A four piece 3 or 4 weight rod might also be worthy of having. Typically you will have 2 rods rigged all of the time (floating and sinking).
A 9` foot, 6 weight fast action rod is ideal for Patagonia.

Leaders and tippets
Leaders: 3x, 2x, 1x (9 foot) and 3x, 2x, 1x (6 foot)
Tippet material: 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x

Floating lines for the 5wt and 7 wt rods.
Fast Sinking lines 150 - 250 grain shooting heads is highly recommended for a 5 and 7 wt. rod for streamer fishing.



Dry flies. Royal Wulff, Irresistible, Humpy, Griffith Nat, Black Nat, Elk Hair and Goddard Caddis, (sizes 18-12, 16 being favorite) Stimulators (size: 12 and 10) Madam X, Turk's Tarantula, Chernobyl Ant, Hoppers. Sizes: 10 and 6, quantity: 3-4 of each.

Streamer flies. Beadhead (BH) Wooly Buggers with rubber legs; olive, black and brown; BH or weighted Rabbit Strips or Bunnies, Matukas, similar colors, yarn or seal fur Leeches similar colors including red, Bitch Creek and other big bright flashy ugly streamers.
Size: 8- 4, quantity: 3-4 of each.

Nymphs. BH and non BH Prince and Pheasant tail; Hare's Ear, tan, green, black; CDC Caddis Emergers, Sparkle Caddis Emergers. Size: 14-18, quantity 3-4 of each. Green scuds, size 18.

  • Warm and cold weather clothing(day highs in the 80-90's, night lows in the 50's)
  • Polar fleece long under wader pants

  • Breathable waders and wading shoes (no studs on wading boots)
